2010 Sweet Ride Contest Rules



Sweepstakes for a 2011 Ford Focus


Who Can Enter

1. To be eligible to participate in this contest, entrant must be an Iowa resident and licensed or permitted Iowa driver not less than 14 years of age and not more than 18 years of age. Contest prize will be awarded to custodial parent(s) or legal guardian(s).

2. Employees of KDSM Fox 17, the Iowa Traffic Safety Alliance, Charles Gabus Ford and any other contest sponsor listed on the contest Web site, their affiliated companies, advertising and promotion agencies, any and all local television broadcast and cable stations, local radio and other media companies, and the immediate family members of each are ineligible. The term “immediate families” includes spouses, grandparents, parents, siblings, children and grandchildren.


How to Enter

1. Contests requiring entry forms:

  1. No purchase is necessary to enter. Qualified entrants may take the on-line quiz as often as they wish, although only one entry per e-mail address will be recorded in the database.

  2. To enter, go to sweetridecontest.com, watch the instructional video, and follow directions on taking the on-line quiz. All entrants scoring 100 percent on the quiz will be eligible to enter the contest. Paper quiz forms are available at the Iowa Department of Transportation, 800 Lincoln Way, Ames, IA 50010 or by calling 515-239-1314 or e-mail tracey.bramble@dot.iowa.gov.

  3. The contest starts on Aug 19, 2010, and all entries must be received by 4 p.m. on March 29, 2011. The contest sponsors are not responsible for lost, late, or misdirected mail or for printing errors, server unavailability, computer or any other electronic malfunction.

  4. One winner will be selected by random number generation from valid database entries on March 31, 2011.

  5. All entries received that are mutilated, tampered with, illegible, or from ineligible entrants will be void. All entries become the property of the contest sponsors and will not be acknowledged or returned.


The Prize

  1. One grand prize winner will receive a 2011 Ford Focus. The prize package is valued at approximately $19,000.

  2. Winners will be notified by e-mail or telephone. Winners must sign and return a release and affidavit of eligibility, which must be received within five days of notification. If a winner is a minor, then the winner’s parents or guardian must sign a release and affidavit of eligibility. Winners must show picture identification to claim prize. The contest sponsors reserve the right to examine additional identification and may choose to accept or deny awarding the prize based on the identification presented.

  3. If winner does not acknowledge receipt of notification e-mail by electronic means or telephone and return the affidavit of eligibility in within five days, the prize will be awarded to an alternate winner.

  4. There will be no substitutions or cash alternatives for prizes except at the sole discretion of Charles Gabus Ford. Charles Gabus Ford has the right to substitute a prize of similar value. No transfer or assignment of prizes is allowed.

  5. The winners are responsible for paying all local, county, state and federal taxes on prizes based on the estimated retail value of the prizes as set forth in these rules. The winner of the Ford Focus must have a valid Iowa state driver’s license and provide proof of automobile insurance. The winner of the Ford Focus is also responsible for add-ons, insurance premiums, maintenance expenses, gasoline, and any other fees and expenses associated with the car, including but not limited to, registration, tag and title fees. Any valuation of the prize is based on available information provided to the contest sponsor, and the value of any prize awarded to a winner may be reported for tax purposes as required by law. Each winner is solely responsible for reporting and paying any and all applicable taxes. Each winner must provide the contest sponsor with valid identification and a valid taxpayer identification number or social security number, and proof of vehicle insurance before any prize will be awarded. Prize is not transferable, redeemable for cash or exchangeable for any other prize. Any person winning over $600 in prizes from the contest sponsor will receive an IRS form 1099 at the end of the calendar year and a copy of such form will be filed with the IRS.

  6. Only one prize will be awarded per household.

  7. The contest sponsors are not liable if the provider of any part of the prize fails to satisfy its obligations to furnish its portion of the prize.

  8. By participating in the contest, each participant and winner waives any and all claims of liability against the contest sponsors, their employees and agents, their respective employees and agents, for any personal injury or loss which may occur from the conduct of, or participation in, the contest, or from the use of any prize. In order to receive a prize, participants must sign an official waiver form provided by the contest sponsor.

  9. In claiming your prize, you acknowledge that the contest sponsors, have the right to publicize your name, character, likeness, photograph, voice and the fact that you are the winner for promotional purposes without financial remuneration.



Odds of Winning/Miscellaneous

  1. Odds of winning depend on the number of correct entries received.

  2. Complete contest rules are available on the Web site at www.sweetridecontest.com.

  3. For a list of prize winners, send a separate, self-addressed, stamped envelope to KDSM –Fox 17 by April 8, 2011.

  4. The conduct of the contest is governed by the applicable laws of the Unites States of America and State of Iowa, which take precedence over any rule to the contrary herein. The contest sponsor shall follow the applicable laws for conducting contests, including notice to the state attorney general or consumer affairs office, posting of a prize bond, furnishing lists of winners, running specific on air disclaimers, providing specific written information about the contest, etc. as required by local and state law.

  5. The contest sponsors cannot be held liable for any lost or stolen entries, prizes or contest information.

  6. By participating in the contest, participants agree to be bound by the decisions of the contest sponsor’s personnel. The contest sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any participant or winner and may refuse to award any prize to a person who is ineligible or has violated any rule, gained unfair advantage in participating in the contest, or obtained winner status using fraudulent means. The contest sponsor will interpret these rules and resolve any disputes, conflicting claims or ambiguities concerning the rules or the contest and the contest sponsor’s decisions concerning such disputes shall be final. If the conduct or outcome of the contest is affected by human error, any mechanical, technical, electronic, communications, telephone, computer, hardware or software errors, malfunctions or failures of any kind, intentional interference or any event beyond the control of the contest sponsor, the contest sponsor reserves the right to terminate this contest, or make such other decisions regarding the outcome as the contest sponsor deems appropriate. All decisions will be made by the contest sponsor are final. The contest sponsor may waive any of these rules in its sole discretion.
